Solidly built
Adjusts to many if not most Leyden jars.

Concept is Good
This was my second purchase of this product. The concept is good, but the materials and workmanship could be better. In the case of my first purchase, one of the arms broke off when I tried to adjust it. It was discovered that the pivots were made out of cheap pot metal & the resulting welds to the arms are not very robust. I tried to repair with steel epoxy glue, but to no avail. Instead, I would drill and tap the pivots and thread the arms so that they could be screwed in. The plastic handle was made out of poor quality plastic. I would drill and tap both ends of the plastic handle. On the pivot end, I'd add a short length of all thread in order to screw the handle into the pivot. I'd put a disc of plastic on this end to act as an insulation barrier from the conductor and the operator's hand. On the opposite end, I'd insert a small eye screw to facilitate hanging up the discharger when not in use.

Do the job
They do the job needed. Not a lot left to be said. Be aware that only one side of tongs is adjustable that is all you need.

Good design, not the best construction
These tongs are just the thing for discharging leyden jars or grounding charged capacitors. They're not the best made items, however. The handle is made of some waxy-feeling plastic that is not fully threaded onto the adjustable tongs. Adequate but not outstanding.
