CLEARANCE: These fire syringes have defects in the acrylic but are still fully functional and definitely worth $4 each.

Sold as a pack of 10!

This air compression ignitor or fire syringe demonstrates how the compression of air increases temperature and pressure inside a cylinder. A small piece of cotton is placed in the base of the cylinder. After being rapidly compressed, the piece of cotton will ignite and force the cylinder back up. This wonderful demonstration tool vividly demonstrates the principles behind diesel engine operation. COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS ARE INCLUDED.

Base Diameter: ~2.5" Cylinder Diameter: ~1" Height (Piston Fully Extended): ~11" Height (Piston in Storage position): ~9"

    Chemistry

The description for this product states that their are defects in the acyrlic and this is accurate in my experience as all of them came with different leves of cracking. It also states that the product is fully functional which I find debatable as many of these shattered before we were able to get a sucessful ignition. However we did get an ignition so if you feel that is worth it go for it! Good luck.

    It broke within a week

As I read in another review (I hoped mine would last longer) it broke within a week of purchasing with just normal usage. The shaft broke from the stand and a crack appeared in the chamber.

Lasted about 5 compressions then shattered

It was a good experience to learn that fire syringes should not be made from this material. The whole thing shattered after 5 tries. Seeing the ignition was great for my kids to help them understand the concept, but I just wish we could have gotten more use out of it. The kids didn't even get a try.
