Safely Operate 10" / 26cm Spectrum Tubes for Classroom & Laboratory Demonstrations
The Elenco STPS-1 Spectrum Tube Power Supply is designed to provide safe and reliable operation of standard 10-inch spectrum tubes used in physics and physical science demonstrations.
Spectrum tubes allow students to observe the characteristic emission spectra of different gases. When connected to the STPS-1, the spectrum tubes will produce a visible glow that can be viewed directly or examined using a spectroscope or diffraction grating.
The STPS-1 features specially designed tube sockets and an enclosed design intended for educational laboratory use. Its regulated operating characteristics are designed to provide reliable operation while helping prolong the life of spectrum tubes.
Ideal for
High school physics classrooms
College and university physics laboratories

How Spectrum Tubes Work
A spectrum tube contains a low-pressure gas that emits characteristic wavelengths of light when an electrical discharge passes through it. Different gases produce different emission spectra.
Students can use a spectroscope or diffraction grating to separate the emitted light into its individual wavelengths and observe the distinctive spectral lines of gases such as hydrogen, helium, neon, and other elements.
This makes spectrum tubes an excellent demonstration of the relationship between atomic structure, electron energy levels, and emitted light.
Important
Spectrum tube is not included. Spectrum tubes are available separately and are required for operation.
For educational laboratory use. Follow appropriate electrical safety procedures and the manufacturer's operating instructions when using high-voltage equipment.
